When Two (“G-Rails”) Become One

For the past 4 years Rhomberg Sersa North America’s (RSNA) has deployed a rail profile grinder (for which our nick name is “GRail") which has very successfully ground rails for various major North American transit networks. Key customers include the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Streetcar Way & Scarborough Rapid Transit, OC Transpo Ottawa, VIA Rail Canada and Edmonton Transit System (ETS).

To maintain the highest quality standards for our clients we are currently upgrading our existing rail grinding fleet. Rhomberg Sersa NA will introduce a new, identical hi-rail grinding machine equipped with the latest rail grinding technology to our fleet.

The additional machine will be a “sister” to our current unit and by taking this step, we will have the flexibility to use the machines independently (e.g. in the same work zone on different tracks, on totally different projects) and the added ability to join the 2 individual units to become one tandem unit with double the grinding capability capable of deploying 12 stones at once.

Once in tandem, one machine will become the lead machine from where the operator operates the entire grinding process. Additionally, the operator will be able to monitor the grinding process not only from the cabin, but also from the outside via a hand held tablet.

An additional feature will be the turnout grinding package which will enable us to grind turnouts in 40 to 45 min.
